What We Do

Special Olympics Hawaii provides year-round sports training and competitions, health, leadership, and inclusionary programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.  There is never a fee for any athlete or family to participate in Special Olympics Hawaii programs.

The ultimate goal of Special Olympics Hawaii is to help persons with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and to increase the public’s awareness of their capabilities and needs.

Who We Are

Special Olympics is a global inclusion movement using sport, health, education, and leadership programs every day around the world to end discrimination against and empower people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, Special Olympics Hawaii has grown to serve more than 6,000 athletes and unified partners across the state.  With the support of more than 11,000 coaches and volunteers, Special Olympics delivers 10 Olympic-type sports and over 50 competitions throughout the year. Special Olympics is supported by individuals, foundations, and corporate partners.
