Sakyadhita Hawai’i

What We Do

Sakyadhita Hawai‘i is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1993 and registered in the State of Hawai‘i in 2000. It is dedicated to developing an alliance of women in Hawai`i who are dedicated to peace education, including training in meditation, stress management, conflict resolution, sustainable agriculture, peace leadership, and compassionate social action for the benefit of humanity.

Sakyadhita Hawai‘i is developing La‘i Peace Center as a community resource center that will offer education and training in peace and non-violence. The Center based on Buddhist principles of nonharm (ahimsa), ethical conduct (sila), compassion (karuna), loving kindness (maitri), and wisdom (prajna), as well as values of gender equity and appreciation of cultural diversity. Programs include training in meditation, conflict resolution, peace leadership and empowerment, and non-violent communications skills. Programs are designed to benefit all sectors of the community, with many programs designed especially for woman and children.

La‘i Peace Center is built on five acres of agricultural land on Oahu, 40 minutes from Honolulu. The Center organizes retreats and day-long programs in meditation, yoga, taiqi, martial arts, Hawaiian arts and culture, Buddhist arts and culture, healing arts, organic farming, conflict resolution, substance awareness, and compassionate communications. Respite care for mothers and children, rehabilitation programs for women, and leadership training programs will be offered periodically. All programs are open to the public.
