What We Do

Membership dues, donations, and the proceeds from our Nature Store, allow us to fund:

• Community Education – historically 500,000 visitors to KPNWR, staff VC, inspire!
• Refuge Programs – capital projects and programmatic support, wildlife conservation and habitat maintenance
• Wildlife Rehabilitation – rehabilitation of sick and injured endangered native Hawaiian birds
• Environmental Education programs and free buses for school field trips to our Refuge
• Daniel Moriarty Memorial Scholarships for college students from Hawai‘i studying wildlife conservation related subjects

Who We Are

Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges serves as a nonprofit “Friends Group,” supporting the environmental and wildlife conservation, historic preservation and community education programs of the Kauaʻi National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which is administered by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and includes Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), Hanalei NWR and Hulēʻia NWR. The organization helps to fill in the gaps in the programs administered by the Refuge team by providing much-needed funding and staffing support. Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges also manages the Nature Store and Visitor Center at Kīlauea Point NWR, supports education programs, administers an annual scholarship, conducts community outreach, and much more.

We support the protection of endangered seabirds & waterbirds, habitat maintenance & restoration, wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, lighthouse preservation, scholarships, and more!
