Description
The AARP Zero Isolation Facilitator is a trained facilitator who presents the program to individuals living in a variety of settings in the community. The 6-week virtual program and in-person program and 3-week telephonic program, offers small groups of individuals a guided journey from a group of individuals to a socially integrated group of older adults. The facilitator, in their role, is not a member of the group. Rather, they offer an educational component, guide participants through the weekly activities and discussions with the goal of increasing social integration within the group and community of those who participate.
Key Responsibilities
Help participants to connect to the concept of the programRun weekly participant sessions called “Get-Togethers”Prepare materials such as, photocopies (on-ground only) or email documents (online) when necessary each week (during the 6-weeks)Direct/remind group navigators of their role within your groupKeep conversations moving forward (timekeeping, flexibility and flow)Keep participants on task (if/ when necessary)
Qualifications
Successfully completed the training and be certified as an AARP Zero Isolation FacilitatorA solid understanding of the technology – (e.g. Zoom and how to connect, functions and breakout rooms in order to instruct others)A desire to support participants in their goals to developing skills to socially integrate into their community and connect with othersThe ability to speak in front of an audience and clearly articulate and communicate information in a conversational formatA computer with video conferencing capability and computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat and other standard applicationsFamiliarity with web-based learning and facilitatingA commitment to the goals, polices and priorities of AARP

Initial Training sessions (10 hrs.) 90-min for each week of the 6-week sessions “Get-Togethers” Session prep of materials: 15min each week over 3 weeks (to prepare documents from the get-togethers, e.g. group norms) Weekly prep of communicating to participants: 20min x 6 weeks (send group email message, corresponding documents and information needed for weekly sessions Weekly prep and practice of material to be presented: varies by individual (e.g. 30-60 min per week
