Our Kupuna
We are looking for volunteers to sponsor a kupuna in your community who do not have family on island to look out for them. As a sponsor, you would call your kupuna once a week to see if they need any groceries, household items or help picking up their medication. Is Our Kupuna available just for Oahu kupuna?No. We connect kupuna to volunteer “sponsors”on the following islands:OʻahuMauiHawaiʻi IslandKauaʻiWe are looking for volunteers on Molokaʻi and Lanaʻi.What is your screening process for volunteers?A member of our team will call the volunteer and ask them the following questions:For the last 30 days, have you had any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, deep cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell?Has anyone in your household had any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, deep cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell?Have you traveled outside of Hawai`i in the last 21 days?We will not accept any volunteers that answer “Yes” to any of these questions. We also require that they send us a picture of their driver’s license and proof of auto insurance via text or email.What is your screening process for kupuna?We call the kupuna via phone and verify the following:Date of birthCurrent addressWhat essential items they typically need?Do they have any medical conditions our volunteer sponsors need to be aware of?When is the best time to contact them?Do the kupuna have to pay for this service?No. Our Kupuna is a free service and all volunteers (“sponsor”) are doing this service to help the community. The sponsor is responsible for providing a full receipt of the items purchased to the kupuna at which time, the kupuna is responsible for reimbursing the sponsor for the cost of the items via cash/check (no credit cards allowed).What types of services will the volunteer sponsor provide?The sponsor will check in with the kupuna once a week via phone call and ask if they need any food, supplies or medication. The sponsor will then shop for these items on the kupuna’s behalf and deliver them to the kupuna. Sponsors are not allowed to pick up any type of narcotic medication.If I’m a sponsor, but unable to fill my obligations for a week, can I have a friend/family member provide the services for me?No. Our Kupuna must screen and validate every sponsor and collect a picture of their drivers’ license prior to delivering items to kupuna. Are you over 65, living in Hawaiʻi and need assistance?We’ll collect your information and connect you with a sponsor to check in with you once a week and grab food and necessary supplies so you don’t have to leave your home.Call 808-215-0073
