Makiki Volunteer Work Day
Hawaiʻi Nature Center
Makiki Volunteer Work Days will focus on maintaining teaching sites utilized by Hawai‘i Nature Center (HNC) for educational programs, such as school field trips, weekend family programs, and intercession nature adventure camps. The projects will include clearing stream sites, landscaping, and removal of invasive plants and vines.
Volunteers need to dress to get dirty, wear covered shoes and long pants, and bring water, insect repellent and work gloves. HNC will provide the work tools. Volunteers will sign a liability waiver on the volunteer work day.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 years old, you must be accompanied by an adult or parent. If you are with a group as a high school school club or community service group, your teacher/adviser must accompany your group.

This noble work stared in a tropical rainforest in 1972 with the Outdoor Circle proposed an education center in O‘ahu’s Makiki Valley. By 1981, the Makiki Environmental Education Center opened and five years later, it grew into an independent 501(c)3 non-profit called the Hawai‘i Nature Center. We offer hands-on, science-based school field trips for elementary students; environmental day camps during school breaks; weekly homeschool programs; weekend family programs and birthday parties for HNC members, and various volunteer service projects.
