Description: Pacific Whale Foundation (PWF) is dedicated to protecting the oceans through science and advocacy. With a mission to inspire environmental stewardship, PWF conducts research, educates the public and advocates for marine conservation. As an Ocean Ambassador, this position plays a crucial role in advancing PWF’s mission and fostering a deeper connection between people and the ocean. Key
Responsibilities:
• Education and Outreach: Actively engage with the public, including visitors, residents, and students. Raise awareness about five major threats to marine animals: plastic pollution, vessel collisions, unsustainable tourism, bycatch and climate change.
• Guided Messaging: Speak on the microphone and provide a one-minute overview of PWF in the PacWhale Ocean Store and on boat trips. Share updates on PWF conservation initiatives, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events and various ways to get involved.
• Data Collection: Gather relevant information and provide visitors with actionable instructions.
• Special Projects: Support office administration tasks and donor engagement.
Qualifications:
• Passion for the Ocean: Deep love for the ocean and a strong commitment to marine conservation.
• Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate various concepts to diverse audiences, including children, adults and fellow volunteers. • Team Player: Willingness to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and partners.
• Reliability: Three-hour consistent commitment per week for at least three months.

Volunteer Requirements: While previous volunteer experience is not required, a strong desire to learn and contribute to marine conservation efforts is essential. High school students (with parental consent) and older are welcome to apply.
