What We Do

HALE PUNA FARM SCHOOL

This is a workforce training program designed for local youth to learn about sustainable agriculture from the planning stage to the marketplace. Paid student interns design, plant, harvest and sell produce and goods at the Waimea Farmers Market at Hale Puna every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 until 5:30 PM.

We are incredibly thankful to West Kauai Farms for taking on the initial responsibility of transforming the 1.3 acre parcel of land from a fallow dry wasteland into a bountiful food forest. With the help of local students and community members we have already planted over 75 fruit trees including avocado, papaya, ʻulu, coffee, cacao, noni, jackfruit, rollinia, fig, banana, citrus and lilikoʻi.

We are proud to be supporting Westside Farmers at our Market. Produces from the Kona Moku are being sold at market or sold to Koke’e Lodge, closest partner to Hale Puna.

KOKEʻE LODGE

Hale Puna and Kokeʻe Lodge are one in the same! We share a vision of a more resilient west Kauai and employ over two dozen westside residents. Hale Puna provides fresh produce, eggs, sugarcane juice and more for the restaurant and they send us food scraps to feed our chickens and build our compost! Kōke’e Lodge is open 365 days a year in the heart of Kōkeʻe State Park.

RESTORING HALE PUNA

Built in 1828 and abandoned since 2004, this house is in serious need of immediate repair. In fall 2017 emergency construction begun to repair the roof. Old Lanai was recently taken down to get to foundation restoration.
