Thin the bamboo patch on Earth Day
Friends of Liliʻuokalani Gardens
Friends of Lili`uokalani Gardens thins the bamboo patch about twice a year. Poles are made available to the public for free. Since Children’s Day is approaching, people may want a long pole to fly koinobori or for home projects. Volunteers are needed to cut poles under supervision and haul them to a nearby stockpile. Work will start at 8 a.m. in the tall yellow bamboo patch visible from Banyan Drive. Helpers are asked to wear closed toe shoes and bring their own gloves. Some gloves will be available to volunteers who do not have their own.
Bamboo will be available to the public next to the sidewalk along Banyan Drive starting at about 9 a.m. People who want bamboo poles are asked to bring your own saw and rope or bungee cords to carry away your poles. People collecting the free bamboo poles are asked not to enter the work zone.
