Rotary Club of Waikiki

What We Do

To provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Rotarians are problem- solvers, working to unite people to take action to create lasting positive change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 117 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on projects that survive and thrive and don’t disappear or fall into disrepair in a few years—the word is “sustainable.” From literacy and peace, to water and health, we are always working to enable people to be self sufficient in seeking solutions to whatever challenges they face. Being a Rotarian is being part of a local and global network to help others and have fun doing it! Rotary’s officers, local, national and international do not get a salary. Administrative expenses are carefully monitored. Rotary’s integrity in this regard is unquestioned which is why we are so respected and successful in our collaborative efforts not only with other Clubs, but with other governmental and non-governmental organizations. Taking on a broad range of projects, from building water wells with pumps to instructing women how to start their own businesses or establishing local networks to administer medicine, every project starts with the idea and commitment of a Rotarian to help people. Every country, city, community has unique concerns and needs. There are countless ways that Rotarians address these needs locally and internationally. We don’t give people fish, we help them learn how to fish to enable them to teach others how to fish. We seek to make people self-sufficient, so inspiring them so that they stand up proudly and say: “Thank you for helping us help ourselves. Now we will go out and do the same.” ROTARY’S SEVEN AREAS OF FOCUS Rotary International has 7 Areas of Focus that are all interrelated. Consider the single basic need of all people is water. Not just water, but 1) Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Then 2) Fighting Disease is more easily addressed— and at the same time we are 3) Saving the lives of Mothers and Children providing needed medical care and vaccines against polio, covid and whatever else. A healthy community is more readily able to pursue 4) Education to learn how to 5) Grow their Local Economies enabling them to work more constructively with others to 6) Promote Peace and 7) Protect the Environment for everyone to ensure they all have 1) Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene…
