The Kaua`i Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering respect, responsibility and compassion for all animals and enriching lives by nurturing healthy relationships between pets and people on the island of Kaua`i and beyond.

Who We Are

We Have Something for Everyone Who Wants to Volunteer at KHS! Ways YOU Can Make a Difference:Socializing AnimalsHelp keep our animals healthy, happy and well-adjusted while they wait for their forever home by walking dogs or playing with cats.LaundryHelp our busy staff members stay on top of the multiple loads of laundry that must be done to ensure our animals live in a clean and comfortable environment.CleaningHelp keep our facility clean for the animals! We are always in need of assistance with daily cleaning tasks such as washing kennels or mopping the floor.Customer ServiceHelp our front desk staff manage daily operations. We are always seeking volunteers to assist with field trips, filing paperwork and organizational tasks.Other OpportunitiesFor volunteers that can commit to a regular schedule, we have volunteer opportunities available assisting vet staff, planning and running adoption events and working with potential adopters. These opportunities require a bit more training and time, but play a critical role at KHS and are extremely rewarding.FosterInvite an animal into your home for a few weeks for socialization and to help them mature to adoption weight and age or if they need help with a medical trauma. We provide everything you need! Learn more about fostering here.Volunteer From HomeWe have opportunities for volunteers who cannot come into the shelter including: donation collections, data entry and assisting with our adoption follow up team.BloomingTailsAssist our staff at the BloomingTails thrift store in Lihue. We need help with sorting donations, pricing and shelving merchandise. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in retail!
